"Dandelion" Wearable Wind Power

Vimeo: Dandelion by Mary Huang.

Oh, this would definitely look so cute on a child! They would certainly love all the swirling and blinking above their head .') (check out the video above.)

Dandelion, designed by Mary Huang in collaboration with Jennyfer Kay is a wearable that captures energy from wind and human movement. Inspired by the theme of climate change, Dandelion which was made with 99% salvaged materials explores the ideas of personal, mobile power generation and kinetics.

'When walking or standing outside on a windy day, the windmills turn. Small individual power generating circuits transfer the rotational energy into usable voltage. In this prototype, the power generated turns on white LEDs, but the energy could be used to power mobile devices or stored for later use. '
- Mary Huang, Rhyme and Reason Creative.
The windmill circuit consists of a dc motor + joule thief + white LEDs.

Walter Raes's 'Tampon Top'

Tampons' halter top anyone? Actually, it is a beautiful piece isn't it? Hey, is not like Walter Raes, the British artist is using any used tampons but even we can't even imagine making anything out of this feminine-hygienic stuff like he does, right?

'Raes’ friends challenged his claims that anything can be fashioned into something you can wear...

“By grouping single tampons together, I created a complex but versatile top,” Raes tells Ecouterre. “The object you shy away from actually becomes beautiful.” And even though the tampon top isn’t made of recycled materials to begin with, it certainly is reusable—as long as you’ve stored it in a sanitary place, that is.'

'Dream Ball' Project by Unplug Design

Dream Ball 1Dream Ball 2
Korea-based designer, Unplug Design Studio always think about better days of entire human race. Their design is not only an element but an agent with spiritual meanings that makes their products worthy.

The children from Third World countries such as Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, Congo and etc. can't enjoy football because of poverty, war and natural disaster. Having footballs give them hope, so they play football with the ball made of plastic bag or a coconut palm leaves. Therefore, Unplug Design Studio suggested the Dream Ball made of recycling relief boxes deliverd to those poor children.

'Relief products of UN and RED CROSS are handed over there. With the products the people can forget hunger and cold instantly, but.. what about the children?

Is there any present to give the children who don't know smile and hope anymore. We want to give them smile and hope with the "ball" recycled by the boxes.'
-Unplug Design Studio.

The Dream Ball was created based on these 4 criteria:-
A. Creat patterns that can help making a ball on the surface of an aid box.
B. Activities of giving aid boxes to children in The Third World.
C. The used aid boxes will be recycled as a football by children with the patterns on boxes.
D. By making Dream Ball with the children together, the aid organizations will get the chance to be friendly with them.
Dream Ball 3Dream Ball 4
Aid box.

If children take off the paper from an aid box by following the patterns on it, and assemble those parts with the attached instruction, they can get a football.
We can apply those patterns on any type of boxes - a square type, a cyliner type.
Now, when children get a cyliner type aid box filled with supply, they can move it by rolling that box.

Dream Ball 5Dream Ball 6Dream Ball 7
The football.

In the aspect of material, we considered children playing football with bare foot.
So, we use paper that can be recycled and its thickness changes the intensity and elasticity of the Dream Ball.
