Broken Things by Livia Marin

'Broken Things' by Livia Marin, an exhibition at House of Propellers, London is a group of 25 Porcelain and ceramic objects with resin plaster, lacquer, transfer-print, varnish.

'Beginning with forms such as a humble porcelain cup, bowl or jug, Marin turns familiar pieces into precious handcrafted art objects through distortion; essentially emphasising through imperfection their uniqueness and beauty.

Smooth melted rounds meet awkward corners, and pattern meets sheen and gloss in a collection unified by material and a swerve from the expected.'

Timelessline Art by Michal Kubacki

Timeless drawing from Timelessline on Vimeo.

I am not a fan of horse/ horses drawing etc. but these...the lines that creates these horses is something different here...
Michal Kubacki is the creator of TIMELESSLINE based in Poznan, Poland.

'It all began one day when I was drawing.

I began to realize that my subconscious, not my conscious self, was guiding my hand and I was merely holding the pen for my subconscious to draw through me. Upon this momentous realization, I began to notice life in different dimensions of time. This influenced me so much, that I could not deny absolute of being.

I draw "Alla prima" with ink, sometimes I use marker pen on paper. I invented a special technique which expresses my philosophy- TIMELESSLINE.'
- Michal Kubacki.

Stairway in Wuppertal, Germany

I love what they've done to this staircase. Just imagine u are walking up rainbow, each step would be such a delightful journey! Found these lovely images through The Townhouse, they have all these photos on stairway while searching for idea for their own stairacase. These stairways are the work of art by Horst Glasker, an artist professor in Germany.

Feedback from a reader: now I know these staircases are called 'Holsteiner Treppe'. Thanks!

"What it is, it isn't."...

Photos by Lisa Klappe.

What capture me the most is the title of this project: " What it is, it isn't." beside the image of awkward looking cabinet, of course. Then, I realized the text was taken from 'Alice in Wonderland', which is written by Lewis Carroll and this project by Ontwerpduo get its inspiration from it.

What it is, it isn't.
'If I had a world of my own,
everything would be nonsense.
Nothing would be what it is,
because everything would be what it isn't.
And, contrariwise, what it is, it wouldn't be.
And what it wouldn't be, it would.
You see?'
- Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland.

To describe the work better, these are exact text from Ontwerpduo:
'Objects are how we perceive them to be. Our minds make things what they are and for us this is reality. Think of a branch hanging in the water. We see, with the refraction of light, the branch under the waterline in a different angle. But we know that in reality the shape of this branch is different. We learned how to see the world.

What if there was an instrument which would change the world into something that we find strange? And better, what if this instrument can also change it back?

Does the world really look how we think it is, or does the world look like we want it to be? This question can be asked by looking at this project, with or without this particular instrument.

I worked with the refraction of light as a basic principal for a new form language. I designed a different world, a strange world. In this new world there still is a possibility to go back to the world we know.

'Showing the world for what it isn't, or is it?'

With the instrument it is possible to reshape objects, spaces and architecture.'

Shin Tanaka and His Paper Toys Design

Shin Tanaka- Jon BurgermanShin Tanaka- Chibby
A maestro of paper arts, Shin Tanaka is a native of Fukuoka, Japan. Shin's style is easily recognize because of his combination of one-of-a-kind paper design with strong graffiti elelments. His passion for paper began with the familiar disposition of having no money as a student. He couldn’t afford his favorite sneakers so he made life-size paper versions of them. This caught the attention of many people, most notably the shoe companies he was imitating. Since then, he has collaborated with big brands such as Nike and Adidas…and should no longer have a problem procuring his favorite shoe.

Shin went on to design templates for paper figures. His most well-known figure is T-Boy followed by Spiky. These figures were an ideal blank canvas for Shin and other creative minds and naturally lead to many collaborations with fellow artists and designers.

Shin Tanaka will be converting one of his innovative paper toy designs into vinyl form. Shin and Play Imaginative will be dropping a 7-inch version of T-Boy, a shy and curious character from his paper toy series. T-Boy will sport a tee with Shin’s signature graphics, and his arms will have some articulation as well. Currently, Shin Tanaka has a downloadable Spiky Baby designer series as well as a worldwide Boxy collaboration with artists from many countries.
