Book Forest

Love this! Found it while browsing through The New York Times previous articles online. The article on D.I.Y Culture by Michael Kimmelman mentioned about this 'book forest' which is in Berlin, a place where people can leave and find old volumes.

'The "book forest" is part of a program called 'Research for Sustainable Forestry’ promoted by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany.

The Book Forest contributes to sustainable vocational education and deals with the value chain forest-wood-book. It was developed and realised by BAUFACHFRAU Berlin e.V. as an interdisciplinary, project orientated cooperation of apprentices of forestry, carpentry, cabinetmaking, media design, printing and bookselling.
The project adopts the idea of putting up a bookcase in a public space, in which people could release their used books to be picked up by others. This way of free dissemination, called ‚bookcrossing’, is by now a worldwide movement organised in a central database (www.bookcrossing.com). Registration of books enables following their travels through the world and communication about the books.'

Bouquet by Tokujin Yoshioka

Bouquet 1Bouquet 2Bouquet 3Bouquet 4
I love this! Bouquet is an armchair with sublime simplicity design by Tokujin Yoshioka. The chair "blooms" on a slim, chrome-metal stem that blossoms with white or delicately-coloured "petals" made of hand-folded fabric squares sewn one by one, with great care and infinite patience, to completely cover the internal surface of the egg-shaped, wrap-around shell.

“I got the idea for Bouquet from the installation I created last October for Moroso's New York showroom. I used about 30,000 paper tissues to recreate a cloud-like atmosphere. The Bouquet makes people who sit on it happy, just as a bouquet makes the person who receives it happy. The vibrant, delicate colours trigger different sensations in each of us.”
-Tokujin Yoshioka.

'Tokujin Yoshioka, is a great “couturier” with a meticulous eye for detail, he is a designer whose delicate, poetic, elegant designs help us to dream.
He likes to astonish us by producing surprising effects from simple, almost banal objects which he interprets and uses in an extraordinary way by means of his ability to see beyond and to reinterpret the world through the characteristic poetry and harmony of Japanese culture.' -moroso

Mayuhana by Toyo Ito

Mayuhana 1
The yarn of fiberglass and resin, forms a cocoon-like form for this delicate MAYUHANA light-fixture. The soft-light that spread through the cocoon-like form creates a more attractive space ever. The Mayuhana was designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito for Yamagiwa, a Japanese lighting specialist.

'This series was created by reeling string around a mold the way thread is spun off a cocoon. The softness of the light reminiscent of a traditional Japanese portable paper lantern (Bon-bori) is enhanced by the light coming through the double and triple shelters, and brings to mind the image of light depicted in Junichiro Tanizaki’s “In Praise of Shadows” (In-ei Raisan).'

RKNL Furniture Studio- In-style with Clean Lines + Soft Shapes

Salontafel RKNL20 Table 1Salontafel RKNL20 Table 2"RKNL furniture studio - symbiosis of form and foundation."

Clean + straightforward + soft shapes just like the above, Coffee Table 20 or Salontafel RKNL20 Table. This white lacquered table designed by Ronald Knol for Odesi, came with 2 white lacquered discs of different thicknesses with the one on the top giving the impression of floating over the lower support, leaving a gap in between to be filled up with books, remote control or other things that we usually range in a coffee table. At €1380, it is available in square + elongated shape from Odesi.

Sideboard RKNL21 1Sideboard RKNL21 2Sideboard RKNL21 3
Sideboard 21 was conceptualized from the drop of fluid motion, the opposite directions of the curves is in a 3-dimensional S-shaped that gives the cabinet an elegant character. Came in 180 x 40 x 55 (W x D X H) it is priced at €2700.

Small Table 21 1Small Table 21 2Small Table 21 is an elegant + distinctive occasional table.

One Table 1One Table 2Available in 195 x 95 x 74 (D x W x H), One Table is a table with 2 faces: cool + elegant. The long side of the table has a soft silhouette, while the short side looks tougher & almost truncated in form due to material used, which is solid oak with an emphasize on the way the wood grain runs: across the table in 1 direction, looking almost like it was made from 1 whole log.

Besides the 4 collection above, RKNL also makes custom furniture in close cooperation with customers to ensure their clean + straightforward + soft-shapes stye meets their client needs too.
